Bridal Show Success!

What a great weekend! Meredith, Eliane and I were at the Salon de la Mariée on Saturday & Sunday, promoting our pre-wedding fitness packages and bridal party bootcamp to brides-to-be.

It was a busy two-days (feet and voices are still not recovered!); we met tons of excited and motivated brides, grooms and their entourages and are looking forward to working with some of them to get in great shape for the big day.

We also had a draw for 5 free personal training sessions and our custom Progress-Tracking Book and we'll be picking a name today so stay tuned to find out which lucky bride (or groom!) wins the package!

Kate's Amazing Wedding Transformation

Check out my client Kathryn before & after she trained for her wedding in Cuba. (The before pics are at the bottom...) Here's what she had to say about training with us:

“I starting training at Epicentre following the birth of my daughter and about 8 months before my wedding in Cuba. With consistent workouts and clean eating, I reached my goal weight in time to look great in my dress AND in my bikini on the beach!"

-Kathryn

Clean Eating and the jittery cook!

We all know that diet and exercise go together – you can work like an animal but if your diet isn't in check, you won't see the results you want. One of my favorite sources for great recipe ideas is Clean Eating Magazine.

Check it out at www.cleaneatingmag.com or, better yet, get yourself a subscription – that way, you'll have loads of healthy recipes on-hand any day of the week. No excuses to eat poorly!

For other (mostly) healthy meal ideas, have a look at the blog of one of my long-time clients, Holly Botner www.jitterycook.com. It's a great resource for many veggie and fish based recipes with lots of new ideas to prepare and flavor dishes that you can whip up in a snap.

Protein....Fluff....?

Hmm, someone gave me this recipe for Protein Fluff (I was confused too, don't worry). Not sure if I'll give this one a shot but perhaps you are braver than I.

Mix 40g protein powder with 200g thawed and mashed berries (strawberries or raspberries are best, apparently), 2 oz skim milk and a sprinkle of sweetener (optional). Then mix with a mixer on highest setting for several minutes until the mixture “fluffs'. Refridgerate for 30 mins. Serve and enjoy.

Okay so I might try it. I'll let you know how it goes!

Forgetting about those New Year's resolutions already...?

January is coming to a close and it has me wondering how many of us are still on-track with new year's resolutions or, have we given up on them already?

A great way to keep up those resolutions, and also to set some great goals for yourself in general, is to use a goal-tracker sheet. I'm a big fan of the Lululemon one - you can download it here and learn all kinds of tips and tricks to effectively plan & execute any kind of goal!

Download your copy and start filling in your short, medium and long-term goals (10 years from now!) and learn how to achieve them!

2011 Montreal Earthquake Results & Wrap-Up

Phew! What a weekend!

We held our 2nd annual powerlifting meet, Montreal Earthquake, on Saturday March 5th. The set-up was a little different from last year; we held it right here in the gym so it was a little cozier this time round but everything went smoothly and I think the athletes and spectators had a great time.
Out of 11 lifters, 7 of them were ours so it made for a hectic day wrapping knees, coordinating warm-ups and choosing attempts, stressing and cheering! It was all-hands-on-deck; basically any member not lifting had a job - spotting, loading, score-keeping, video/photos, set-up/take-down, music, refreshments/snacks, bathroom tidying duty...the list goes on and on and on...
Huge thanks to Louis Levesque, JP Lachance and Francis Rousseau for judging. Janet Warne, Diana Burley and Eliane Jean for working the head-table (and especially to Eliane for being my slave all day Friday); Warren, Harv, Brendan, Sheila, Joyce and Mark for spotting and loading; Skinny Matt for taking videos of every lift (he's not so skinny anymore but 'Normal Matt' just doesn't have the same ring to it); Jen for music and a ton of other last-minute jobs; my parents for running errands, taking care of Otto for the day and delivering home-made muffins to all of us! I'm sure I must be forgetting someone.....

It's too hard to say what the lifting highlights were - there were so many novice lifters and they all made me so proud. Angie, Nancy, Gab, Little Nicky, Andreas, Nicolas and Samuel - you guys did a super job and I am looking forward to taking you all to Ste-Marie in June!
