We are still raising funds to buy & ship soccer balls to Jamyang School in Ladakh, India. It's a boarding school in the Himalayas and most of the children come from difficult family situations (i.e one parent has died or they are extremely poor & face child labor). The living conditions are harsh in this remote area. The school was opened last summer and so far they have welcomed 50 or so kids. To date, they don't have a 'gym' class - that's where we come in! By sending them some basic stuff like soccer balls, whistles and even skipping ropes & hacky sacks, these kids will actually get to PLAY (after their outdoor 5:30am shower and prayers......yikes!!).
So, the next time you're in the gym, drop a few bucks into the collection jar - every bit makes a difference!
Also, if anyone is interested in sponsoring one of the kids' education for the upcoming school year (they start in March), let me know. This is a pic of the boy I have agreed to sponsor this year.
The money goes directly to Jamyang School in his name and will cover his education & living expenses for the whole year (it works out to about the same as what I spend on coffee over the year...). So if you'd like to know more, just email me.
Thanks!
